Common task
Compress a photo for email or social
Shrink a phone photo so it doesn't bounce from a board member's inbox or take forever to upload.
A modern phone photo is 5-12 MB. Most email systems start rejecting attachments somewhere around 20 MB total, and even when they don’t, a 50 MB email is a bad look in someone’s inbox. The Image Compress tool brings that 5 MB phone photo down to around 400 KB without visible quality loss.
When to use this: Emailing a photo to a coalition partner, posting to social, or attaching to an event invite. Anything where file size matters and "screenshot-of-a-photo" isn't acceptable.
How to do it
- Drag the photo into the drop zone (or click and pick a file).
- Pick an output format: JPG for photos, WebP for smaller files on the web, PNG if you need transparency.
- The slider next to the preview controls quality. 80 is the default and usually the right answer.
- Click Download to save the smaller version.
One thing people miss
If you’re emailing a photo that has someone’s face in it — a candidate headshot, a member testimonial — quality 80 is fine. If you’re emailing a chart or screenshot with text, push the quality slider to 90 or use PNG. JPG compression smears small text.
